CHICAGO ─ Illinois public transit leaders State Senator Ram Villivalam, State Representative Eva-Dina Delgado and State Representative Kam Buckner, released a statement following the Chicago Transit Authority revised security plan announcement:
“We are encouraged by the steps taken to improve safety on the Chicago Transit Authority, including connecting riders with social services and housing programs in coordination with the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services, implementing safe ride specialists’ initiatives and providing additional law enforcement presence.
“It is a significant positive step to see these improvements coming to the CTA as safety standards and procedures are implemented in the coming months thanks to provisions included in Senate Bill 2111 – the Northern Illinois Transit Authority Act.
“We need to continue exploring ways to strategically expand resources that keep riders and workers safe – not threaten to cut funding, as that will have the opposite effect, like the Trump Administration has continued to do.”
